Recently, I was lucky enough to be treated to a surprise get away trip to Iceland, for my birthday. I was beyond excited and found out I would be spending my 25th Birthday at the famous Blue Lagoon!
Geothermal spa's are a big thing in Iceland and one of the most natural ways to look after your skin. This lead me to looking into what skin benefits you can gain from your trip to Iceland AND some travel tips that would of been helpful before I arrived.
Beauty Tips

Geothermal Spa's
There are many hot spring baths in Iceland but the Blue Lagoon is the most famous tourist attraction. It is located in a lava field which keeps the water nice and warm. The water is rich in minerals like Silica and Sulphur which are known to help skin conditions like Psoriasis. I have suffered with Eczema all my life and as I have got older, bad skin days can result in hypo-pigmentation (where my skin looses pigmentation) So, you can image I am very careful with what I expose my skin to.
I am pleased to say that after spending the day at the Blue Lagoon my skin was so soft! Although it lost a lot of moisture, my Eczema seemed to have calmed down for a few days. You will spend at least three hours here, so make sure you moisturise your skin after and put some conditioner on your hair before you enter. Although my skin was smooth, it was dehydrated from being in the water for so long, I also had to give my hair a good treatment when i got home as the ends were extremely dry. The Blue Lagoon also has a mud mask bar which is great for an extra skin care boost.
Icelandic Water
When you travel, you usually have to be careful with drinking tap water. In Iceland, you can't get enough of it! You will be encouraged to drink the tap water as it's the purest water to drink and has its own health benefits. The water includes Sulphur which is great for skin.
No Sun
The fact you only have around 3 hours of daylight is so weird! It seriously takes you off track and you feel like you should still be sleeping whilst having lunch. This is obviously a skin benefit in itself. No sun, means no SPF needed, which means less skin damage and wrinkles!
Travel Tips
Budgeting
Whatever spending budget you have for Iceland, double it! There is no doubt, Iceland is expensive and a meal for two can cost around £55 at a Pizzaria, so be prepared.
Taxi costs
This was the most shocking for me. Taxi's are extremely expensive but due to the cold and ice it is the easiest way to travel. The taxi from the airport to Reykjavík cost £120 for a 40 minute journey and a 15 minute journey from the hotel to the town cost around £20. Without preparation it will eat into your budget in no time!
The Lava Restaurant
When you visit the Blue Lagoon, there is an on site restaurant, try to pre-book this. I would highly recommend eating here. I had the lamb main meal and it was SO tasty, i'm literally drooling while typing this - a very memorable meal.

Golden Circle
If you are only in Iceland for a short trip, the Golden Circle is a great way to see some key sights. The average cost for a Golden Circle tour for two people is around £120 and takes 8 hours on a shared tour bus. SCRAP THAT! Rent a car for £70 from Hertz and drive the Golden Circle yourself. This was by far the best way to relax and see the sites in your own time. You can rent a Satnav from the rental company who will pre-set your journey for you to follow. It was so magical to drive down empty Icelandic roads in the comfort of your own car. I would only suggest this if you are a confident driver though, the roads do have black ice and thick snow. We did the Golden Circle in only 4 hours and that included important hot chocolate stops.

Suitcase Essentials
My Timberland's have never been so precious to me haha! Forget fashion when travelling to Iceland and don't bother wearing fashionable trainers. You need shoes that keep out water and keep your feet warm. Pack thermals and keep a woolly hat and gloves on you at all times.
I hope you enjoyed reading my tips on Iceland and it helps you when travelling to such calm and magical place. If you have any questions, get in touch!
Lots of love,
